Teeth Whitening in Lake Orion, MI

Here are ten little-known facts about teeth whitening.

  1. Light-colored sodas can stain your teeth just as much as dark-colored sodas.
  2. Teeth-whitening procedures work best for people with yellow teeth and is less effective for people with brown teeth. If your teeth are gray or purple, tooth bleaching probably won’t work at all.
  3. Red and white wine, black tea and coffee, and strong-colored sauces (tomato, soy, etc.) are also among the most staining foods.
  4. Teeth bleaching can be done in a dentist office or at home. Dr. Greenfield offers both services.
  5. Teeth bleaching won’t whiten porcelain crowns or composite tooth-colored bondings.
  6. Professional teeth whitening, whether performed in office or at home, will yield better and longer-lasting results than over-the-counter whitening methods.
  7. Both tooth-whitening options use peroxide-based bleaching agents. At-home systems contain from 3% to 20% peroxide (carbamide or hydrogen peroxides). In-office systems contain from 15% to 43% peroxide.
  8. Zoom! in office teeth whitening is best for people who want immediate results. After an hour-long bleaching session, your teeth can look up to 10 shades whiter.
  9. At-home teeth whitening is best for people who wish to whiten their teeth in the privacy of comfort of their own home. Users can expect to see a difference in their smiles in about two weeks.
  10. Teeth whitening is the most requested and least invasive cosmetic dental procedure.

The Dangers of Mercury

MercuryWe all know the importance of a healthy diet. Certain foods contain substances that aren’t good for our overall wellness. For example, candy contains high amounts of sugar, lunch meats are high in sodium, and many processed snack foods have a high percentage of saturated fat. However, to truly protect your health, not only should you watch what foods go into your mouth, you should be careful about what dental materials enter your body as well. Many common dental restorations such as crowns and fillings contain large amounts of mercury, which can be extremely detrimental to your health. To protect you and help you maintain optimal wellness, Dr. Brad Greenfield proudly practices metal free dentistry at his Lake Orion, MI practice.
