White Fillings from Your Lake Orion Family Dentist

What are white fillings?

White fillings are made from a hard plastic material, known as composite resin. In liquid form, these fillings mold to the shape of your void left behind from your cavity, covering the damaged area completely. Then, Dr. Greenfield can shape the exposed portion of the filling to match the natural cusps of your teeth. Using a curing light, the tooth-colored filling will harden into a durable dental restoration. Since composite resin can be dyed to match the color of your tooth, your white filling will look natural and discrete. Only you and your Lake Orion dentist may be able to tell you have had dental work.

Why are dental fillings important?

Fillings are vital to stopping the progression of tooth decay. Since your teeth do not heal themselves, professional dental care is necessary to prevent the spread of cavities and avoid more complicated dental issues. An untreated cavity can lead to an internally infected tooth or a dental abscess, which may require a root canal. Severe tooth decay may even result in tooth root cracking, which requires tooth extraction.

Our Lake Orion dentist, Dr. Greenfield, can address the tooth infection by removing bacteria and diseased tooth structure. The filling builds back the tooth structure lost from the cavity and strengthens the tooth.

The Advantages of CEREC Crowns in Lake Orion

Extreme tooth decay can make your tooth brittle, sensitive, and weak. That’s why our Lake Orion dentist recommends dental crowns for restoring teeth with root canals, damage from tooth trauma, or failed large fillings. Dental crowns are one of the most common restorative dentistry procedures. They build back tooth structure, restore tooth function, and prevent reinfection. At our Lake Orion dental office, we take the advantages of dental crowns a step further by offering one-day dental crowns. Our Lake Orion dentist, Dr. Brad Greenfield will explain the technology behind these amazing dental crowns and how they can make your restorative dentistry procedure better.

What Is a CEREC Crown?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics. This means that your dental crown in Lake Orion is economical, made in our dental office, and looks aesthetically pleasing. The CEREC system allows Dr. Greenfield to develop specifications for your dental restoration and supervise the making of the dental crown all in our Lake Orion dental office.

How Are CEREC Crowns Different?

Most dental crown placement procedures require at least two dental office visits to complete the procedure. The first will consist of preparing your tooth for the crown, taking an impression of your tooth, and placing a temporary crown on your tooth. A typical dental office does not have the resources to make their own dental crowns. So you may have to wait weeks for your restoration to be made in a lab. CEREC crowns can be fabricated and placed in one day.
