Questions And Answers

Question: How do I overcome dental fear and anxiety?

Answer: Dental phobia or fear exists as a legitimate condition, and it can undermine your intentions of bettering your oral health. To assist in conquering fear and anxiety, Dr. Greenfield offers three levels of sedation, including IV sedation provided by a professionally licensed anesthesiologist.

Question: Does sedation cause unconsciousness?

Answer: Dr. Greenfield understands that loss of control is a serious concern for some patients. Choosing sedation does not mean you become unconscious. We keep you at a level of sedation that induces a deep relaxed state. You will be able to respond to our requests throughout the entire procedure. If you desire to be “asleep”, general anesthesia through IV sedation can be administered by our in-office anesthesiologist.

Question: How will I be monitored during sedation?

Answer: A staff member of our team will monitor your vitals and needs constantly during any sedation induced procedure.

Question: Can I request sedation dentistry?

Answer: Any patient can request dental sedation. However, Dr. Greenfield will review your health history to determine if sedation remains a viable decision.

Question: How soon can I drive after being sedated?

Answer: Oral and IV sedation can cause disorientation or grogginess for up to 12 hours post-procedure. Dr. Greenfield requires that you find a responsible adult to drive you from the dental office following a procedure involving oral or IV sedation
