We believe in lifelong dental health here at Lake Orion Family Dentistry, and we want to assist you in taking the measures to achieve that goal.
Teaching your kids good brushing habits is the first step to ensuring the health of their teeth and gums. Although they may appear to be brushing correctly, kids can often miss food residue and plaque on their teeth, especially on hard-to-reach molars. To prevent tooth decay that leads to other dental problems down the road, we offer dental sealants.
Dental sealants are a thin plastic film that are applied directly to the teeth. Each sealant is specifically designed to fit the patient’s needs during a fast and comfortable process. I will identify and fill any spots of decay. Then, I will prepare your child’s teeth with a cleaning solution, which we quickly rinse away, before coating them with the protective sealant. The entire procedure is done within 45 minutes and looks completely natural.
The goal of dental sealants is to create a completely sealed physical barrier that stops any food or other bacteria from getting stuck in the deep grooves that are common in teeth. Because sealants are highly effective in preventing tooth decay and the cavities that come as a result of it, I suggest dental sealants for many of my patients.
Sealants have been recognized by the American Dental Association as a primary way to prevent cavity prevention and promote healthy, long-lasting teeth. If you would like more information about sealants or would like to set up a consultation appointment, please call my office.
